The St Peter's multi use games area was opened on Saturday 21st June 2008 by the Mayor.

The Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) may be used for a variety of sports and is marked out for five a side football, basket ball and mini cricket.

The MUGA will be open and free for any residents to use at any time up until 9.00pm when we would ask that, with respect to neighbouring properties, it be vacated. There will be no charge unless exclusive use or block bookings are required. The MUGA is being managed by the Village Hall Manager.

The lighting will be subject to addional charges. It will be controlled by a timer and available up to the designated time.

Tell us your views on this MUGA using the Parish Council’s contact us facility.

St Peter's Film Nights

Fancy an evening out? Take in a movie, have some food, meet some friends? Did you know that every two months there is a film night in St Peter's? In the last year the film club at St Peter's Baptist Church has shown films as diverse as The Station Agent, An Inconvenient Truth and United 93.

The films are shown on Saturday evenings in the main hall. We usually serve ice-cream afterwards and there's a chance to stay around, meet a few people and talk about the movie if that’s your kind of thing.

St Peter's gets its first Community Responder

Local resident Karen Clarke has recently qualified as a Community First Responder (CFR) and will be supplying cover to our community together with other nearby CFR's to assist the ambulance service.

The CFR scheme is designed to provide a rapid response to local medical emergencies, and provide immediate care whilst awaiting the ambulance arrival. The volunteers are trained by the Ambulance Service and are then issued with a medical kit that includes an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and Oxygen.

7 out of 10 heart attacks occur outside hospital and currently only 2 or 3 per 100 survive. When someone suffers a heart attack their chances of survival drop by up to 10% for each minute that passes so a speedy response is crucial. Correct resuscitation techniques doubles the chance of survival and having an AED can further increase the chances by more than one third. The ambulance service targets arrival within 8 minutes, but a quicker response from the local CFR will make a difference. The most important thing is that resuscitation is started quickly and this is something that anyone can be taught to do.

Local CFR co-coordinator, Sarah Clark, explained to the parish council meeting on 29th January, that part of the CFR initiative will be to provide first aid training (Heart-start classes) free of charge to interested St Peter's residents.

At present the medical kits are shared between several CFR's who - being volunteers - provide cover as and when they can, to various areas within Worcester. However they would like to achieve the goal - by fund raising and community funding - of each community having its 'own' kit that is then passed between CFR's within that community, on a rota basis, so that as far as possible there is always someone local on duty. CFR's are dispatched by ambulance control at the same time (not instead of) an ambulance, so their task is very much one of providing immediate care until the paramedic arrives. All CFRs are issued with NHS photo ID and uniform.

Anyone interested in becoming a CFR should contact the NHS Community defibrillation officer on 01905 765150 or 07977 989615.

St Peters Preschool and Toddler Group

Some of the youngest members of the St Peters community are well into the new term at the pre-school. The last term of 2006 was the usual fun and learning, including the end of term nativity that was attended by Cllr Imray and Christmas party (graciously attended by Father Christmas himself).

Many of the current pupils were first introduced to the preschool environment when they were taken along to the Mothers and Toddlers group. This friendly group runs every Monday during the preschool term from 1:15 to 2:45 and is supervised by one of the qualified pre-school staff. It's a great opportunity for the children to have fun and make some friends that they may well know through the rest of their school life. There is a modest charge to cover the cost of the hall and staff of £1.50 for the first child you bring and 50p for any additional children. Included in the price is tea/coffee, biscuits and squash for the little ones. The toddler group is a safe environment where Mums and Dads can let the babes and toddlers play whilst sharing the delights and difficulties of parenthood over the traditional cuppa.

If you’d like to give the toddler group a try, please feel free to join us on any term-time Monday. If you bring along this copy of the Newslink, your first session will be free and the second session half price. So please come along and test the preschool motto of 'Fun and Friends'

The Staff and Committee of St Peters Preschool and Toddler Group. (January 2007)
