St Peter's is classed as a 'prospering suburb' in the 2001 census - it is a predominantly residential suburban parish on the southern edge of Worcester City, comprising approximately 4300 electors and 2600 households. St Peter's Parish Council comprises 9 councillors and it forms the first tier of local government for St Peter's residents; the second tier being Worcester City Council and the 3rd tier Worcestershire County Council.
The vast majority of local council services are provided to St Peter's by the City or County Council although the Parish Council may often be the first point of contact for local residents. Your council is proactive ensuring good links with the City and County Council, police and other key organisations - to ensure that local residents views are communicated and services are effectively delivered. The Council takes a particular interest in all planning matters relating to St Peters (the City has to consult with the Parish) and the environment, including litter and green-space maintenance. We also provide financial support to the Village Hall, grants to local community groups and undertake projects for the benefit of the community that lie within our power.
This pdf explains more about the parish council.
This web site is part of the Parish Council strategy to communicate effectively with the residents of St Peters whom we are elected to represent. The web site provides agendas and minutes of the Parish Council meetings, contact details for your councillors and other useful information and links. It also provides an easy means for you to send comments to the council via the 'contact us' link or to any individual councillor.

After a long awaited birth, the Multi Use Games Area is now well under way. It is a full size MUGA allowing a use for a variety of sports and will be marked out for five a side football, basket ball and mini cricket.
The Youth P.A.C.T. team have a grant to fund the purchase of equipment and we plan to install some secure storage adjacent to the facility so that there are always bats and balls and the like available and close by.
The lighting will be controlled by a timer and will only be used up to 9.00pm. It’s not expected that we will have an electricity supply before mid-summer, but that shouldn’t be a problem with the light evenings.
The way it will operate is that it will be open and free for any residents to use at any time up until 9.00pm when we would ask that, with respect to neighbouring properties, it be vacated. There will be no charge unless exclusive use or block bookings are required.
To book the MUGA simply e-mail or phone the Hall Manager to arrange times and dates. Charges are expected to be £15.00 per hour for under 18’s and £20.00 per hour for those over 18 years of age. Lighting will be charged at an addition £5.00 per hour for both age groups.
Tell us your views on this MUGA using the Parish Council’s contact us facility or for further information contact: Cllr Roger Knight
Once again we will be holding a “best garden” competition here in St Peter’s in conjunction with the Worcester in Bloom event.
We plan to award a prize for the best garden in St Peter’s as judged by the Worcester in Bloom panel.
This means that if you enter the Worcester in Bloom competition and are judged the best in our Parish, then you will be awarded a prize. An entry form is included in this edition of News Link, fill it in now and enter, then get cracking on your garden!!
Beautiful gardens not only improve our environment and make the place a lot more attractive, the preparation and maintenance helps to keep you fit. What you might call a win win situation!!
Good luck.
Our thanks to St Peter’s Garden Centre for their generosity in supporting this event.
Fancy an evening out? Take in a movie, have some food, meet some friends? Did you know that every two months there is a film night in St Peter’s? In the last year the film club at St Peter’s Baptist Church has shown films as diverse as The Station Agent, An Inconvenient Truth and United 93.
The films are shown on Saturday evenings in the main hall. We usually serve ice-cream afterwards and there’s a chance to stay around, meet a few people and talk about the movie if that’s your kind of thing.
The dates of the next films are: 5 July, 20 Sept, 8 Nov.

Worcester City Council has plans for a two-year long project which aims to improve riverside access for walking and cycling between the Severn Bridge and Diglis Island. The project work will be carried out on both sides of the river and will link to the new pedestrian and cycle bridge which will be built at Diglis Island following the success of the joint County and City Council Connect2 Lottery bid.

The future of local government, including your Parish Council is currently the subject of a Bill before Parliament: the "Local Government and Public Involvement in Health" Bill (introduced to the Commons in December 2006). In addition the "Lyons Inquiry" final report was published on 21st March 2007. The Inquiry considered the form, function and funding of local government.
St Peter the Great Parish Council is eager to develop relationships with clubs, voluntary groups, and other stakeholders within the ward, with a view to involving and informing them of future plans and policies. To this end, I would be very grateful if you could take a few moments to complete the following questionnaire . You can either download and fill in electronically and return by email to the Clerk, or print a copy and fill it in and return by post to the Clerk. If you have any questions or queries then please do not hesitate to contact me (the Clerk).
Local resident Karen Clarke has recently qualified as a Community First Responder (CFR) and will be supplying cover to our community together with other nearby CFR's to assist the ambulance service.
The CFR scheme is designed to provide a rapid response to local medical emergencies, and provide immediate care whilst awaiting the ambulance arrival. The volunteers are trained by the Ambulance Service and are then issued with a medical kit that includes an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and Oxygen.
7 out of 10 heart attacks occur outside hospital and currently only 2 or 3 per 100 survive. When someone suffers a heart attack their chances of survival drop by up to 10% for each minute that passes so a speedy response is crucial. Correct resuscitation techniques doubles the chance of survival and having an AED can further increase the chances by more than one third. The ambulance service targets arrival within 8 minutes, but a quicker response from the local CFR will make a difference. The most important thing is that resuscitation is started quickly and this is something that anyone can be taught to do.
Local CFR co-coordinator, Sarah Clark, explained to the parish council meeting on 29th January, that part of the CFR initiative will be to provide first aid training (Heart-start classes) free of charge to interested St Peter's residents.
At present the medical kits are shared between several CFR's who - being volunteers - provide cover as and when they can, to various areas within Worcester. However they would like to achieve the goal - by fund raising and community funding - of each community having its 'own' kit that is then passed between CFR's within that community, on a rota basis, so that as far as possible there is always someone local on duty. CFR's are dispatched by ambulance control at the same time (not instead of) an ambulance, so their task is very much one of providing immediate care until the paramedic arrives. All CFRs are issued with NHS photo ID and uniform.
Anyone interested in becoming a CFR should contact the NHS Community defibrillation officer on 01905 765150 or 07977 989615.
