Parish Councillors- Who are we?

In volunteering to be elected for office your Parish Councillors (many with full-time jobs, families, or both), give their time unpaid for the benefit of the community as a whole. We were all elected following the May 2003 local elections, or have been co-opted since then when an elected councillor has resigned. We have a Clerk who is employed part-time by the Parish Council and is the 'Proper Officer' (a statutory post). Each councillor may accept a specific area of responsibility ('portfolio') but all decisions and actions are taken by the council as a whole and recorded in the formal minutes of council business (these can be found on this web site).

Most of us live within the Parish (you have to live within a few miles of the boundary to be a councillor) and so we are personally aware of and often affected by the issues that affect residents.

However in a community as large as St Peters there are bound to be things that we will not identify if left to our own devices and so we very much welcome hearing from you. Members of the public are also very welcome to attend Council meetings (approximately monthly on a Monday evening).

"The Clerk works part time only, but messages can be left at any time and will be dealt with at the earliest opportunity. If there is any difficulty with this system, a short letter via land mail requesting contact is quite easy and will be dealt with promptly. More than 50 messages per week are constantly being dealt with and there are normally no difficulties."
